Top 5 Delhi Lingo That Every College Student Should Swear By

05/05/2017

Hi guys! Hope you all are doing well. After yesterday's solemn discussion on Delhi air pollution, why not take a chill pill and lighten the heavy mood! Though today's topic remains focused on Delhi but we will talk about Dilli's (Delhi) Lingo/local bhasha, which is absolutely loved by all!

A city brimming with life and fun. Delhi, the nation's capital celebrates its 104th Birth Anniversary of being India's capital. As for me, what can be better than celebrating its unique diversity and cosmopolitan culture than embracing and appreciating its all-cool local dialect, or bhasha! After bragging endlessly about Delhi's food, restaurants and tourist spots that students simply ADORE, we finally decided to get deeper inside the Delhi belly to scavenge out the best flavours of the city only for you, ji!

Hey students! Read on, peruse through each word, understand them and use them wherever deemed necessary. And if you don't feel like using them already, pardon us!

TOTTA/MAAL/BOMB/PATAKA

More or less, these four words have similar meanings, which is Hot Chicks. In placid language, it stands for something really attractive and gorgeous. And women are always GORGEOUS!

Delhi boys are found reciting these shoddy lines almost daily, be it on the streets, metros, buses or in the pubs or restaurants or malls: "bhai totta hain yaar, bomb lag rihai, maal hai yaar maal".

BHASSAD

Having fights with parents? Bhassad. Problems with your significant partner? Bhasaad. Stuck in disgusting Delhi traffic? Bhassad. Couldn't complete the given college assignment? Bhasaad. Any chaos or unpleasant situation gives rise to this cult term, Bhasaad. Next time, if someone tells you, "Bhasaad ho gayi yaar", you gotta take'em seriously!

BAKAR

A typical student life consists of endless ranting and incessant food chomping sessions. Though no one accepts it, but it's an eternal truth and each one of us have done it someday or the other. Talking relentlessly about some useless topic for hours is nothing but doing Bakar. Hope I have explained it well! A Bakar session involves jabbering about cars, eateries, girls, future, business, Bollywood, Honey Singh and what not! The list is almost endless.

SCENE

This Scene word is used for two purposes. One is when you take a part in a fight scene: 'Bhai scene hogaya' and the second one is when you want to make a plan with someone special, 'Bhai scene banale'. So, which scene is better for you? You decide, I won't (wink).

TU JAANTA NI MERA BAAP KAUN HAI

Well, this is a clichéd one! We all know our lineage, from where we come from. Yet we use this rhetoric again and again to warn you not to mess with us, because tu janta nahi mera baap kaun hai. If you ask me, I will definitely ask the Delhi authority to organize a contest for Delhi's daddies so that only the offspring of the winner gets to convey, "Tu jan gaya na mera baap kaun hai!". Agree or not?

Here our list of Delhi Lingos comes to an end. Pleajj feel free to tell me, which one caught your attention the most Madamjii?
